This past Friday saw the release of two of the year’s most anticipated 3DS games: Mario Golf: World Tour and Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Both have garnered praise from fans and critics alike, but it’s Kirby’s latest adventure that deserves particular attention, delivering another inventive platformer and setting a new benchmark for the mainline series.
In honor of Triple Deluxe’s release, the staff will be devoting the third issue of Volume 2 to all things Kirby. All week long, we’ll be running a series of articles celebrating Nintendo’s heroic puffball, from the history of the character’s origins to the brilliant ways in which the series incorporates various gameplay ideas while maintaining its own unique identity. In an industry increasingly dominated by first-person shooters and stern-faced action games, it’s nice to see that Nintendo’s pink hero can still charm fans with fun and engaging gameplay (even if he does get a little angry from time to time).
Enjoy,
Kevin
