Following two unsuccessful Kickstarter campaigns, Precursor Games, developer of Shadow of the Eternals, has announced it will be halting development on the title indefinitely.
In a post on the Precursor Games forums, Denis Dyack, the studio’s chief creative officer, explained the decision to suspend the project:
“Many of us will be taking a break. For those who are not aware, we all worked on this project as a labour of love and self financed 100 per cent of everything for a over a year to try to make Shadow of the Eternals a reality. Although we did not succeed on doing this, we succeeded in making many friends and starting something that we hope provided value for those involved.”
Shadow of the Eternals was intended to be a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness, a psychological horror game released for GameCube in 2002. The game failed to meet both of its Kickstarter goals, and while it was quickly accepted on Steam Greenlight, it seems that wasn’t enough to sustain the project.
