When The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was announced as a sequel to A Link to the Past, fans were ecstatic. After all, Zelda fans still debate whether the SNES title was better than N64’s Ocarina of Time. Well, there’s another big reason to get excited for this November’s 3DS release: apparently, it’s going to play host to a number of major changes to the traditional Zelda formula.
Revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct, the game will allow players to choose which dungeons they want to explore in whatever order they wish. Worried about not having the right tools or weapons to explore? Not a problem. A Link Between Worlds will also allow players to buy any items they might need from one large shop, available right at the start of the game. It’s a rather unusual change for the series, but it will be interesting to see the end results, without question!

As soon as I heard Iwata’s description of the new approach to dungeons, it made me think of the first Zelda game. I doubt the player is going to be left with as little direction as that original game, but providing more freedom of choice has a lot of potential to reinvigorate the series. What’s old is new, as they say.
personally i had no problem with the old formula, i find it boring having to rent the items
