During today’s Nintendo Direct conference, Nintendo announced Sonic the Hedgehog as the 17th playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Sonic first appeared in the series third iteration, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Sonic’s place in the game was hardly in question given that his next adventure Sonic Lost World is exclusive to Nintendo platforms, but as a third party character, it’s a relief to know that he’ll be coming back. He joins Capcom’s Mega Man as the game’s second such character. Now, let’s all hope Konami’s Solid Snake will also make a return!
