Not all of the announcements from today’s Nintendo Direct was a good one– President Iwata also confirmed that the upcoming Wii U Donkey Kong game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, has been delayed until 2014.
Tropical Freeze is the Wii U follow-up to Donkey Kong Country Returns, the critically acclaimed Wii platformer by Retro Studios (of Metroid Prime fame). The game was originally intended to launch this December, but according to Iwata, it has been pushed back to deliver the “optimum gaming experience.”
Were you looking forward to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze? Are you upset by its delay, or are you relieved that you’ll have more time to enjoy one of Wii U’s other releases this year? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Dang. Bummed. Still, I needed some gaming breathing room this Fall/Winter. This means I’ll be more likely to check out Scribblenauts: Unmasked or Arkham Origins. Could be worse, I suppose.
Yeah, I’m actually kind of relieved it was pushed back. Between Super Mario 3D World, The Wind Waker HD, and Pikmin 3 (which I STILL haven’t started), my Wii U’s going to be really busy this holiday season, so DK’s delay helps alleviate some of the pressure from my wallet. ;)
It feels like a N64 style release calendar delay (a delay to space out releases). That said, I’m with Kevin in that my Wii U, 3DS, PC, and PS3 gaming is going to be nuts this season.
