1) Link Finds X from Legend of Zelda series
This is a pretty simple one to explain. Basically, it started in Ocarina of Time, whenever Link goes into a giant treasure chest. Usually it contains something that is serious business. We have that teaser music crescendoing throughout the anticipation of what the big item may be. Then finally, Link turns around, holds it up and we hear that fanfare and then find the item that is floating inconspicuously in his hands. This meme originated in the days of yore known as YTMND, the first documented case of it being one that ended in Link finding Milton’s red stapler (from Office Space).
This one is my favorite because of its versatility. It doesn’t matter if you’re familiar with the Zelda series (though I can’t imagine how someone isn’t, but that’s another argument for another day), it will still get its point across. The idea of all this buildup is that it ends up being for something silly like a Rick Roll, Nigel Thornberry, NINTENDO SIXTY FOUUUURRRR, or whatever your mind conjures up. I also enjoy this one so much that I actually did the pose after I got my diploma during my college graduation.
And so, that is my Top Ten Nintendo Memes. Have I missed one that you figured would be in here (I know, I know…Nintendo 64 isn’t in here; I like the meme, but it just missed the cut)? Sound off in case I may have forgotten one that you feel is worthy of this list. Until next time, this has been the Top Ten.
Great list! Good memories ; )
I haven’t heard of some of these (specifically #5 and #6).
Also, Zero Wing is not a Nintendo game and never appeared on any of Nintendo’s consoles.
I always quote #7. It is so much fun seeing the reactions. I usally get #3 thrown back at me by someone.
Number 8 is obviously the greatest meme– and the greatest video– in the history of the Internet.
This is so good, I wish I wrote it.
How could you forget the FALCON PAWNCH?!! I am disappoint.
