In addition to unveiling a handful of unannounced titles, today’s Nintendo Direct also gave fans another look at Yoshi’s New Island, the upcoming 3DS installment of the Yoshi’s Island series.
As we had previously known, the biggest addition in Yoshi’s New Island is the ability to lay gigantic eggs, dubbed Mega Egg Dozers. Players can hurl these oversized projectiles through pipes, stone walls, and other destructible objects around the environment, opening up news pathways and collecting any coins and other items in their trajectory. Yoshi can also lay a Metal Egg Dozer when he ingests a giant metallic enemy. These function similarly to typical Egg Dozers, except they are rolled rather than thrown.
Fans of the original Yoshi’s Island will be excited to learn that transformations also make a return. Today’s broadcast offered a brief glimpse at two of the vehicles Yoshi and his friends will be able to transform into during their adventure: a submarine and a jackhammer. Both are maneuvered using the handheld’s gyroscope.
Lastly, Yoshi’s New Island will be introducing an entirely new item to the series: the Flutter Wings. These only appear when players have made a certain number of mistakes during a level, allowing them to bypass any areas they may be having difficulty with (similar to the Invincibility Leaf in New Super Mario Bros. 2).
What do you think of Yoshi’s New Island? Have any of these new details made you more excited for the game? Let us know in the comments!
