In addition to some brief information on the next Legend of Zelda title, today’s Nintendo Digital Event gave fans another look at Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles X, the sprawling techno-fantasy game formerly known as “X.”
Despite its new title, however, it appears X is not a direct followup to the first Xenoblade Chronicles, but rather a “spiritual successor” that continues the themes explored in that game. The story begins in the distant reaches of space. Earth has been ravaged by a devastating war between two alien species, forcing mankind to flee the planet. Players assume the role of one of Earth’s survivors, who, in a departure from the previous title, can be customized entirely at the start of the adventure.
Just as in the first Xenoblade, X’s gameplay revolves largely around exploring beautiful, open environments, which are inhabited by lumbering beasts. The game retains the original’s sense of scale and battle system, though it has been further refined this time around, allowing players to target specific parts of a creature’s body. Players will also be able to customize their Arts and Skills trees to an even greater degree than before.
Along with this new information, Nintendo has released an exciting new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X, which you can watch below:
Xenoblade Chronicles X will launch sometime in 2015.

While a sequel would have been better, this is still promising stuff.
Because it takes place on Earth, it looks like this game is a prequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles. This is evident thanks to the origins of Zanza in the ending of the first game.
