If you loved the Captain Toad minigames from Super Mario 3D World, you’re in luck because Captain Toad is getting his own standalone retail game called Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Just like in Super Mario 3D World, Treasure Tracker is an isometric puzzle platformer. The goal in each level is to reach the star, but there are plenty of other collectibles to grab hidden all over the levels. Each level has three crystals and a number of coins to find, some of which are very well hidden, requiring players to spin to camera around and look closely to find them all. Levels are also full of enemies and obstacles than players can interact with. Enemies can be held in place and walls can be moved around to access new areas. Toad can pull turnips form the ground and use them as weapons, and there are even some levels that use the GamePad gyroscope for some on rails shooting.
Level themes range from normal grassy areas to ghost houses and beach areas. There was even a boss encounter in one level. No release date was given during the presentation, but I really hope to see it release sometime this year.

I didn’t expect to see something like this so soon, much less on Wii U. I’ve been looking for a nice puzzle game to sink my teeth into, so I can imagine this is a buy for me. Can’t wait to seeing more.
Looks gorgeous. Considering how fun his segments were in 3D World, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one!
