1. The Tingle Tuner, Now in Widescreen!
When the Wii U GamePad was originally revealed back in 2011, the comparisons to the Game Boy Advance connectivity with the GameCube came almost immediately. Heck, one of Nintendo’s tech demos for Wii U at E3 2011 even used the idea for Pac-Man Vs.. Sure, the Zelda game we associate the GBA/GC cable with the most is Four Swords Adventures, but don’t you remember the Tingle Tuner?
For the forgetful ones, here’s what the Tingle Tuner was all about. It was an item you received rather early in The Wind Waker from everyone’s favorite map-making man-child cosplayer, Tingle. It allowed a second player (or one player, if you were adept at multitasking) to use a Game Boy Advance to control Tingle, who could help Link out in various ways during his adventure. It displayed a map of Link’s whereabouts, and allowed players to use Tingle to drop bombs, uncover secrets, and even float on air. These abilities came at a cost, of course. All in all, the Tingle Tuner was a very interesting device, but it was rather low key and went unused by most players. Integration with the Wii U GamePad could change that.
Imagine yourself, sitting there playing The Wind Waker for Wii U. You get the Tingle Tuner, and rather than having to hook up another system to use it, it immediately becomes available right on your GamePad screen! You could either hand off the GamePad to a friend, and control Link with a Pro Controller, or maintain control of both green-clad fairy children yourself. The GamePad screen would be perfect for displaying Tingle’s maps, and the stylus control would make moving the cursor to drop bombs or perform other actions a cinch. Using the GamePad as the Tingle Tuner is a no-brainer, and I will be quite surprised if Nintendo doesn’t add this into the remake.
The cut content would be fantastic and I’d love to see it included. I imagine they still have all the art assests, etc. hanging around and it wouldn’t be too much of a problem to remake them.
I recon if they shrank the heads of main characters so they don’t look like lolipops they would increase the apeal of the game to a wider audience, thats my only gripe with the art design as it seems soley focused on children. Of coarse i don’t expect that to happen.
I’ve always thought the art design was fitting for the game. Yes the characters do look strange with bit heads and floating eyebrows, but overall this is a great game. If Nintendo can include the extra content (new dungeons, mini-games, useful islands, side quests, new items) then a great game would become much better. My Gamecube is still connected to the TV with Wind Waker in it but this is a 1st day purchase for me. Zelda fanboy…probably, but who cares.
