Shigeru Miyamoto has announced that we will be able to play Pikmin 3 on the Wii U GamePad alone.
This is familiar grounds for those that own New Super Mario Bros. U. As mundane as this appears, GamePad-only play is amazingly convenient. In fact, playing on the GamePad can be a more immersive experience than playing on a forty-two inch HD TV. I beat most of New Super Mario Bros. U in my bed, in my pajamas, and on the GamePad.
Does this mean Pikmin 3 will abandon asymmetric play? Miyamoto has also announced that the gyro sensor in the GamePad, along with the two control sticks, will facilitate gameplay control. I am keenly interested in how developers will use the Wii U GamePad. I see Wii U as a challenge to Nintendo, to developers, and to gamers alike: Nintendo must sell the GamePad’s potentials, developers must realize them, and gamers must enjoy them. At any rate, I look forward to Pikmin 3!

great great news, when the wiiU was announced the game pad only functionality wasn’t that atractive to me, i thought that the real deal would be using the 2 screens at the same time, well, it turns out that i play more on the gamepad that on my tv, and is one of my favorite features of the wiiU, so i’m looking forward to play pikmin 3 in my bed!
Excellent. I think it’s a great idea and I have a feeling I’m going to be using it a lot.
