4) Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Released: 1998
To give a little perspective here, the prequel Star Wars movies hadn’t even hit theaters when Star Wars: Rogue Squadron exploded onto N64. Though fans were anticipating the new trilogy (sound familiar?) while basking in the glow of the re-release of the original movies, games like Rogue Squadron were still a rare and tantalizing dip back into George Lucas’ intergalactic pool. With impeccable play control and production values, Rogue Squadron was every bit as exciting for diehard Star Wars fans as the comics and novels. Players engaged in dramatic and gripping dogfights and reveled in the excellent fan service on display. The market has been inundated in the years since Episode I, but at the time, titles like Rogue Squadron were special, and it shows through to today.
