Ahead of the release of Swords & Soldiers 2, developer Two Tribes (the studio behind Toki Tori) has announced on its official website that it will be bringing an upgraded version of the first Swords & Soldiers to the Wii U eShop.
Originally released on WiiWare in 2009, Swords & Soldiers is a quirky sidescrolling real-time strategy game in which players take control of one of three warring tribes: the Aztecs, the Vikings, or the Chinese. The upcoming Wii U version features a number of improvements over the original, including HD visuals, customizable touch controls, Wii Remote support, and multiplayer that “combines” the GamePad and television.
Two Tribes has yet to pin down a release date for Swords & Soldiers HD, but the studio says it expects the title to launch either in late April or early May.

Two player mode using the gamepad sounds awesome.
This is a great game… but I’m not sure if I’ll double dip since the WiiWare original is still fully playable on my Wii U console. Anyone who hasn’t already played Swords & Soldiers should definitely give it a shot though – as long as the port turns out better than the 3DS version.
