That’s a lot of Bells…

At least week’s Game Developer’s Conference, Nintendo revealed sales information for Animal Crossing: New Leaf and the numbers are quite impressive. The title sold 7.38 million copies worldwide as of January 2014. While that still falls a bit short of Pokémon X and Y‘s record-breaking sales, it does make it one of the highest selling Nintendo 3DS titles to date. The title even managed to eclipse many of 2013’s other best selling games, including Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, which sold six million copies in a similar time frame.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf released in Japan in November of 2012 before debuting in the rest of the world in 2013. In addition to financial success, the game was met with near universal praise. Many reviewers cited it as a strong improvement over previous titles in the franchise.

Well deserved. Although I’m flirting with Animal Crossing burnout (again), it’s been fun to play and has been a very relaxing and enjoyable way to spend some of my free time over a period of many months. The 3DS version is certainly the best so far in my opinion (even if I do still miss the collectible NES games from the original).
    :)
