Sega first unveiled Sonic Boom a few months ago, but not much more has been said about it until recently; but now it seems like the company is looking to get the hype train rolling before E3. First, Sega revealed a new character, Sticks, and now the publisher has revealed a lot more details about what we can expect from both the 3DS and Wii U versions in terms of gameplay and story.
While previous news has revealed Eggman will play a role in Sonic Boom, this latest batch of news has also revealed a new antagonist, Lyric. Like Eggman, Lyric seems to have a particular fondness for robotics; unlike Eggman, though, Lyric happens to be a giant ancient snake creature with power armor. We’re not sure what sort of interplay there will be between Eggman and Lyric, but it will be the duty of Sonic and his buddies to save the world.
Most interesting is the revelation about how the two versions of the game will differ. Wii U will play host to Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, which Sega promises will place a greater emphasis on action and exploration and feature the Enerbeam, a whip-like device that can be used for both navigation and combat. The 3DS version will be titled Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal and will differ from the Wii U version by placing a bigger focus on platforming and puzzle solving while also allowing gamers to play as the new character, Sticks. Also, the 3DS can be linked up with the Wii U to unlock additional content on the console game.
Both Sonic Boom titles will be released in November and will tie into the upcoming animated TV show of the same name. Expect to hear and see more about Sonic Boom next week during E3.
