Costume Quest released back in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and quickly found an adoring fanbase before finding its way to other, non-Nitnendo, platforms in the ensuing years. The game comes from the acclaimed developers at Double Fine, and tells a whimsical story about a pair of kids using power-granting costumes to save Halloween from the Grubbins, a comical group of goblin-like creatures who like stealing candy. Thanks to the charming world it created and its JRPG-like gameplay mechanics, Costume Quest eventually became something of a cult hit.

The game has obviously proven well enough for a sequel, because Double Fine has unveiled Costumer Quest 2, which will be coming to Wii U (among other platforms). Nintendo fans should probably find at least one thing to like about this game, because the original employed Paper Mario inspired timing mechanics in its turned-based battles, and Double Fine has confirmed that these elements will be expanded upon in the sequel to make the combat more involving and rewarding. The studio is also hoping to add more variety outside of battles by incorporating fewer fetch quests and better utilizing the unique attributes and abilities of each costume. Speaking of which, the game will also feature more costumes, including the likes of a clown, a superhero, and a giant piece of candy corn which is completely useless, literally. After all, does anybody actually like candy corn?

Not surprisingly, Double Fine is aiming for a Halloween release this year, so that isn’t too long a wait for the game, and it will probably be an even shorter wait to learn and see more as E3 is next week.
