3) Animal Crossing: Wild World
I have to be honest: I’ve never played Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City (known in North America as Animal Crossing: City Folk), so I’m not sure how it compares to the DS or 3DS versions. Animal Crossing: Wild World was the version which first made the leap into the online world though and was instrumental in securing its mass appeal.
A game like Animal Crossing is perfectly suited to multiplayer, and the full implementation of it here completely transformed the series. Visiting your friends, sending mail, sharing patterns, and more were all welcome additions and recent iterations have continued to build on this.
Sure, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is now the better version to play, but this is only as it builds on the solid foundation that was laid down in the DS game.
Sorry, but you can’t make a “Best of WFC” without Monster Hunter.
We’ve excluded Monster Hunter from the list (and from our poll) since it technically used Capcom’s servers for online play and not Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but there’s no doubt that it was easily one of the most ambitious and addictive online games on any Nintendo console. ;)
Yeah, there was a number of great third party games that would have made the list if it had been open to all games with online play.
I agree with you though. I plan on getting Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as part of the Mario Kart promotion in a couple of weeks!
