6) Mario Strikers Charged
This sequel to the GameCube original had the expected mix of Mario characters, zany power-ups, and a crazy amount of environmental hazards. Fairly typical for a Mushroom Kingdom sports game then!
It’s also notable for being the first online Nintendo game in Europe and included the ability to track your friend’s progress, leader boards, and a number of online modes. With so many games embracing purely online play, it was also a welcome addition to be able to play four-player games online, but alongside a friend next to you.
Football (soccer!) has never been so crazy…
Sorry, but you can’t make a “Best of WFC” without Monster Hunter.
We’ve excluded Monster Hunter from the list (and from our poll) since it technically used Capcom’s servers for online play and not Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but there’s no doubt that it was easily one of the most ambitious and addictive online games on any Nintendo console. ;)
Yeah, there was a number of great third party games that would have made the list if it had been open to all games with online play.
I agree with you though. I plan on getting Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as part of the Mario Kart promotion in a couple of weeks!
