6. Look Away – Mario Party 2
Type: 1 vs. 3 minigame
In Look Away, a team of three players must not look in the same direction as the person playing alone for five turns in order to win.
It sounds deceptively simple, but much like Hide and Sneak, Look Away has a lot of depth when it comes to outsmarting your opponents. After a short piece of music is played, there is a two second interval in which players can chose their direction. In this small window of time, it is possible to keep changing your direction until the time runs out. So, the single player could pretend as if he’s choosing one direction, but then deceive the team of three by looking in a different direction at the last possible instance. Faking out opponents in Look Away is incredibly satisfying, and is guaranteed to make your friends rage in disbelief.
I also love how every character in this game is a creepy floating head. It doesn’t get any better than that!
I remember when the first Mario Party came out, Nintendo offered everyone the chance to get a glove to keep from burning holes into the palms of their hands. This series is always fun. Great picks!
I remember that all too well! The N64 control sticks were often huge victims of the original Mario Party minigames as well. I went through a couple of controllers just for Mario Party, and I have no regrets.
The blisters I got from the first Mario Party were kind of unbelievable in retrospect. I pretty much tore my hand apart playing some of those games.
Like Anthony, I regret nothing. :)
Also, no Bumper Balls??
I know that feeling all too well, Marc!
Haha I love Bumper Balls, but I opted to take it out because I often got into stalemates when two players were left on the field. But, it’s definitely an awesome minigame :)
