1. Dungeon Duos – Mario Party 4
Type: 2 vs. 2 minigame
I have been playing Mario Party games for over a decade, and I have yet to find a game that surpasses Dungeon Duos. Dungeon Duos is as close to perfect as a Mario Party minigame could be, and it accomplishes this by being a compilation of four different kinds of minigames at the same time.
The first part includes each team member taking turns pressing a switch repeatedly in order to remove a wall obstructing the other player’s path. When each player on a team has lowered two walls, the game switches over to a platforming segment where one player spins a lever to operate a platform in the middle of a bottomless pit. When one player jumps on the platform and gets across, there is another lever on the opposite side for that person to operate that helps the other person get across the same pit. When a team goes across two different pits, the game switches over to a luck segment where players must jump through numerous pipes to find the right one that progresses them to the next set of pipes. After the second set of pipes, players are greeted to the final minigame, which involves inflating a hot air balloon by alternately pressing the L button and R button at the right time.
Seriously, there’s a lot going on here!
Playing such an intricate game requires a lot of communication between you and your partner, exemplifying the essence of what a 2 vs. 2 game should be. Of course, every 2 vs. 2 game requires a group effort, but nothing matches to the amount of teamwork and effort each player puts into Dungeon Duos. If Mario Party were a class in a college university, this would be the final exam. It takes every skill you have ever applied in a Mario Party game, and it puts you to the test.
There you have it! You’ve heard my voice, now I’d love to hear yours. What are your favorite Mario Party minigames? Let us know in the comments below!
I remember when the first Mario Party came out, Nintendo offered everyone the chance to get a glove to keep from burning holes into the palms of their hands. This series is always fun. Great picks!
I remember that all too well! The N64 control sticks were often huge victims of the original Mario Party minigames as well. I went through a couple of controllers just for Mario Party, and I have no regrets.
The blisters I got from the first Mario Party were kind of unbelievable in retrospect. I pretty much tore my hand apart playing some of those games.
Like Anthony, I regret nothing. :)
Also, no Bumper Balls??
I know that feeling all too well, Marc!
Haha I love Bumper Balls, but I opted to take it out because I often got into stalemates when two players were left on the field. But, it’s definitely an awesome minigame :)
