Due to the upcoming release of Mario Party: Island Tour on Nintendo 3DS next month, I have been retrospectively thinking about the Mario Party series as a whole. The newest game will be the 12th entry in the series, which is a testament to its massive popularity. Most Nintendo fans are familiar with Mario Party and have fallen in love with its unpredictable, competitive gameplay, which may or may not break friendships in the process.

The minigames are arguably the biggest staple of the Mario Party series. Each minigame offers a break from the board game aspect of the game, presenting unique gameplay experiences during each turn that typically last for a short amount of time. The interactivity and creative brilliance of the minigames are the reason why the series has become so popular in the first place, and why other virtual board games that lack them, like Fortune Street, haven’t been as successful.

With that said, here are what I consider to be the top ten Mario Party minigames of all time!

I remember when the first Mario Party came out, Nintendo offered everyone the chance to get a glove to keep from burning holes into the palms of their hands. This series is always fun. Great picks!

I remember that all too well! The N64 control sticks were often huge victims of the original Mario Party minigames as well. I went through a couple of controllers just for Mario Party, and I have no regrets.

The blisters I got from the first Mario Party were kind of unbelievable in retrospect. I pretty much tore my hand apart playing some of those games.

Like Anthony, I regret nothing. :)

      Also, no Bumper Balls??

I know that feeling all too well, Marc!

Haha I love Bumper Balls, but I opted to take it out because I often got into stalemates when two players were left on the field. But, it’s definitely an awesome minigame :)
