Top Ten: Alternative Final Fantasy Songs

Katharine lists her favourite Final Fantasy tunes from the Nintendo era that don’t feature the words “Theme of Love” or “Dancing Mad”.

5. Land of Dwarves

Final Fantasy IV

I’ll admit this one isn’t too alternative considering it’s just an alternative version of the main overworld theme, but I actually like this one better. It’s got that slightly mysterious quality to it that reflects the lava-fuelled underworld Cecil and his companions suddenly find themselves in after Golbez and the Red Wings descend into the bowels of the planet in search of another crystal. It has a much slower tempo than the “Main Theme” and feels a bit more relaxed as a result, making it much easier on the ears compared to the “Main Theme”‘s relentless harp and driving piano bass line.
