While it may have focused mostly on 3DS announcements, today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast ended with a look at 10 new features in Super Mario 3D World, the upcoming Wii U platformer launching on November 22. Some of the features, like the Captain Toad and top-down shooter stages, give fans an enticing look at the variety of gameplay they can expect to find in Mario’s big Wii U title, but the most exciting was the announcement of a fifth playable character to choose from– Rosalina from the Super Mario Galaxy games!
Unlike her Mushroom Kingdom counterpart, Rosalina cannot float through the air, but instead performs a spin jump to gain extra hang time, just as Mario does in his two outer space adventures. She also glides along the stage gracefully, suggesting she may be the slowest character of the bunch. You can check out the first footage of her in action below, along with the remaining nine features announced during today’s broadcast, but be warned– the trailer contains spoilers!
