Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed Super Mario Galaxy‘s Rosalina as the fifth playable character in Super Mario 3D World. While this is certainly good news for fans of the critically acclaimed Wii title, those same fans might just have a couple other reasons to celebrate this week. In a recent edition of Iwata Asks, Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Mario’s cosmic adventures may not be over just yet.
“Just so there is no misunderstanding, I should point out that this doesn’t mean we’ll never make another Super Mario Galaxy game,” Miyamoto stated in regards to Super Mario 3D World. “The same team can’t make both at the same time. And we can’t bring in a second party and slap the name Super Mario Galaxy on it. I suppose we could idealistically make both in Tokyo, but we want to do something new too, so there was that dilemma.”
While this isn’t direct confirmation that a third iteration in the series will soon see the light of day, we will see the worlds of Super Mario Galaxy show up on the Wii U in one form. That’s because a stage based on the series has been confirmed for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
