During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced new features, new characters, and new stages for Mario Kart 8. Among these is the second of two announced Mario Kart 8 DLC packages, which includes both male and female Villagers and Isabelle from the Animal Crossing series, along with Dry Bowser. Alongside this are eight brand new tracks in the respective Crossing (named after Animal Crossing) and Bell (named after the Cat power-up from Super Mario 3D World) cups. This content was announced alongside the first DLC pack, but it’s not until now that we have gotten more information that surpasses simple character additions.
With the announcement of a new DLC pack comes the reveal of nine new outfits that will be unlocked by utilizing available Amiibo figurines. The characters range from old faces like Bowser to relatively new members to the Nintendo house like Pac-Man and Mega Man, with Sonic squeezed somewhere in between.

In the last moments of the Nintendo Direct, Nintendo also took a small trip down memory lane to speak about the various CC modes in the series, which begin with the beginner-friendly 50CC and gradually up the ante to require more skill, eventually stopping at 150CC. However, today the company’s done the obvious and announced an all-powerful, increasingly-fast 200CC. 200CC mixes speed, technique, and balance and finally brings the level of speed we saw in F-Zero games closer to the speed available in Mario Kart.
