1) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Released: Nintendo 64 (1998)
If Wind Waker is a masterpiece, Ocarina of Time is a revelation. Super Mario 64 introduced true 3D gaming to the world, but Ocarina of Time evolved and nearly perfected it. Making strides in control, camera work, cinematics, and much more, Ocarina of Time‘s impact on the video game industry was immediate and still echoes through to today. The game’s revolutionary Z-targeting mechanic is still employed in one form or another throughout the industry, along with the contextual use of buttons that Ocarina of Time also pioneered. With a powerful story at its heart, players traversed Hyrule as they never had before, embarking on an adventure that felt personal in a way that few games are capable of. The 3D remake for Nintendo 3DS was a faithful recreation, but regardless of which version is played, Ocarina of Time is an example of pitch perfect video game making. From the music to the boss battles to the narrative, Ocarina of Time is still the benchmark from which all Zelda games are measured.
What order would you rank the Zelda games in? Should Crossbow Training have been on here? Let us know below!
Nice list, and it had to be pretty tough to rank so many beloved gems! I’d put Link’s Awakening higher and Minish Cap lower (maybe even kick it off the list and include the Oracle duo) but everything here is solid.
Spirit Tracks remains the one Zelda title I haven’t finished. Every time I pick it up, I’m quickly turned off by the central Tower of Tedium. If the otherwise fun and memorable Phantom Hourglass hadn’t had a similar Basement of Boredom, I’d have tried to squeeze it into a top ten.
Cool list.
I hope yall dont mind me saying mine hehe…
1- Twilight Princess
2- Wind Waker
3- Skyward Sword
4- A Link Between Worlds
5- Majora’s Mask
6- Phantom Hourglass
7- Spirit Tracks
8- The Legend of Zelda
9- Four Swords
10- Minish Cap
Thank yall!!
