So maybe Super Mario 3D World didn’t sell the best in Japan when it came out last month. But hey, take it one day at a time, right? The weekly Japanese sales charts from Media Create are out for the week of December 2 to December 8, and things are looking up for Wii U in the region! For starters, Wii U sold over 48,000 units last week, making it the second highest-selling hardware of the period behind 3DS XL. That’s an increase of about 20,000 units from the previous week! It still pales in comparison to the mighty sales of 3DS, but it’s a step in the right direction.
This bump is most likely due to the release of the new second version of Dragon Quest X for Wii and Wii U on December 5. The Wii and Wii U versions of that game took the 2nd and 6th spots on the top-selling games chart, respectively. They really really love Dragon Quest in Japan. Will the momentum for Wii U continue in its home country for the rest of winter? Check out the link below to see the all of the raw numbers and neat lists yourself.
