Rejoice Nintendo fans, the long dark night is over! 3DS firmware update 7.0.0-13 has landed and brought with it a slew of new features for the little handheld that could.
Nintendo has been promising since the inception of Miiverse that its social gaming hub would not be limited to the home console space, but also make its way to the portable platform. Today those promises have come to fruition and gamers who spend the time to download the rather large update will find a handy dandy Miiverse icon waiting for them on their 3DS home screen.
In addition to Miiverse access, the update also takes a giant leap in unifying the Big N’s storefronts across the Wii U and 3DS by allowing funds to cross the barrier between the two consoles. Through use of the Nintendo Network ID gamers with access to both platforms will finally be able to use residual funds from 3DS on the Wii U and vice versa.
If you’ve already had the opportunity to download the update and experiment with its features, then tell us how you’re liking them in the comments below! And if not, what are you waiting for? Get that download rolling!

Loving the shared funds feature. I had some credit just sitting on Wii U without any games that I really wanted to buy… but now I can use that right away on 3DS eShop (if I so choose) to grab something off my portable wishlist.
A small change, but a really awesome one in my opinion.
Haven’t done much with MiiVerse yet, but was curious: can the 3DS post photos or screenshots in the same way Wii U can? (The only game I know of that let you take screenshots previously was Animal Crossing.)
