This Christmas, value shoppers looking for a console to put under the tree will have a new option to keep an eye out for. While the Wii U will retail for a significantly lower price than Sony and Microsoft’s consoles, there will be another Nintendo option for the budget conscious. That’s because the Wii Mini will make its US debut this month, at a bargain price of $99. The red and black colored system will also come with a Wii Remote Plus, a Nunchuk, and a copy of Mario Kart Wii.
Today’s announcement comes just two weeks after news that Nintendo would cease production of the original Wii. While the Wii Mini comes at a significantly lower price than the original Wii debuted at, it should be noted that the lower price point does come with some drawbacks. Specifically, the system no longer offers backward compatibility with GameCube titles, and offers no Internet or SD card support. Still, considering the price of Wii Remotes and the inclusion of Mario Kart, Wii Mini might even appeal to those that already own a Nintendo Wii.

Buying one! Too cool!
Why in the world would you include Mario Kart Wii, a game that was praised for its online, in a system that can’t take advantage of the online features? It would have been better to include New Super Mario Bros. Wii if they wanted a multiplayer game. Or something like Wii Sports Resort or Wii Play Motion. The game choice just makes no sense to me.
I just bought a Wii Mini yesterday. Honestly there is no point to the system but just like the Gameboy Micro I had to have it. I haven’t decided on if I wanted to open it or not. I probably will. At least it looks cool.
