It’s always interesting when a developer or publisher gives fans a look at the way decisions are made internally. Yacht Club Games did just that when they announced that the physical release of Shovel Knight would now retail for $24.99, rather than the previously announced price of $19.99. According to the developer, the switch was apparently made after discussing the topic with retailers, who would have had to stock the title with similarly priced bargain games (also known as shovelware). Considering how well the title has performed on Wii U so far, it makes sense that the developer wouldn’t want potential buyers to associate the cheap cost with low quality.
At $24.99, the retail version of Shovel Knight will now cost $10 more than it does on the eShop. Disc purists likely won’t mind too much, but there’s also a little extra incentive for fans to pick up the physical release. The retail release will also include a digital download of the game’s soundtrack, which received plenty of accolades when the game first debuted. With the game’s DLC also on disc, it won’t take up as much space on the hard drive, either!
Shovel Knight will release in stores on November 3. Will you opt for the retail version? Let us know in the comments below!

What a smart bunch of research they did there.
Guess I’m stupid enough to buy it again, though I’ll probably opt for the 3DS version. Already have it on the U.
