Square Enix’s spin-off Dragon Quest Monsters series has had two previous successful outings on DS and is soon to make its debut on 3DS with its third iteration, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3.
New details about the upcoming title, its protagonist, and its plot have emerged this week thanks to popular Japanese magazine Jump.

The main character is once again nameless (an editable name being the norm for the DQM series) but also without any memory of his past or who he is. One thing he does have is an unknown device called the “Reactor.” With this device he is able to carry out a number of tasks, including the ability to scan and analyze monsters. With such a powerful tool at his disposal he sets out on an adventure to regain his memories, catching the odd monster here and there to fight alongside him.
Amazingly there are over 500 monsters within the game, with the ability to ride every single one of them. This will be imperative in completing your journey, taking the adventure to land, sea, and air, often requiring a specific monster to gain access to otherwise unreachable areas.
Series creator Yuji Horii has previously stated that Joker 3 will feature new gameplay mechanics, new monsters, and new competitive multiplayer fights; however, just like the game’s release date, nothing has yet been confirmed.
