Nintendo has often gotten a not undeserved reputation as a stubborn company. Occasionally, however, they do show their fans that they’re willing to listen to what they have to say.
In a recent interview with 4Gamer, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes director Hiromasa Shikata and series producer Eiji Aonuma shed some new light on the upcoming title. When Tri Force Heroes was first announced at E3, many fans noted its similarity to the Four Swords spin-off franchise. The title does differ in one notable way, however. While previous multiplayer Zelda titles supported local co-op only, Tri Force Heroes supports online multiplayer. According to Aonuma, following the release of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition on 3DS, many fans filled out a questionnaire and expressed their desire to play the game online, which led to its inclusion in the follow-up.
It should be noted that Nintendo’s online efforts have also come a long way since that title was released. Online gaming has become a much higher priority for the company as of late, so that likely played a significant role in the decision, as well. While the game can either be played online or with friends, the local multiplayer option does offer one advantage! An exclusive item, the Proof of Friendship, will only be available to those who play the game offline. The item apparently allows players to create special costumes.
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes will release in North America on October 23.

This looks like Zelda Gauntlet.
Yeah, I think I’ll pick it up but leave it sealed. It’s Zelda, but then again kind of not.
