It seems 3DS is losing another one of its big exclusives. Like Resident Evil: Revelations, which is reportedly heading to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (though that has yet to be officially confirmed by Capcom), Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Square Enix’s rhythm-based celebration of the Final Fantasy series, will be making its way to iOS devices before the end of the year.
Unlike the original 3DS game, Theatrhymth on iOS is available as a free download, but fans will have to purchase songs individually to play them. The iOS version also features a new “Compose Score” mode which allows you to create your own songs and share them with other players.
While this news will hardly affect sales of the 3DS game, the fact that two of the handheld’s most prominent exclusives (Theatrhythm earned a B+ from Nintendojo when it first hit the console) are making their way to other platforms– in the same year they were released, no less– is setting a worrying precedent. You can argue that this gives more gamers a chance to experience them, but it’s nonetheless a bit disheartening for 3DS owners, especially those who purchased the console specifically for these titles.
