Along with that, Eurogamer reports that New Super Mario Bros. sold best, with around 160,000 purchases. Yup, that means just over half of Japanese Wii U buyers picked up Mario’s latest. Monster Land Hunter 3 Ultimate, ever popular in Japan, sold over 100,000 copies, while Nintendo Land (it’s sold separately in Japan) sold over 65,000.
For perspective’s sake, the record-holder is PlayStation 2, which in March 2000 sold over 630,000 units. Something about an attractive price and, by the end of that year at least, plenty of third party games.
Console launches are more marathon than race, though. We’ll have to wait and see where sales go in the coming months.
