Yes, you read that right. Today the Pokémon Company announced that an official Pokémon app, previously released only in Japan, is coming to iOS devices internationally. The app is available for download right now on iPad and iPhone for $1.99.
The app is a Pokédex, and is essentially identical to the Pokédex 3D software on Nintendo 3DS. Users can browse the Unova Pokédex to view models of Pokémon and their attributes. For the initial $1.99 download, only the Unova Dex is available. Other regional Pokédex entries are available, but at a whopping $5.99 per region!
Shocking to see Nintendo characters on a smartphone isn’t it? However, this app is being released straight from The Pokémon Company, and not Nintendo. The Pokémon Company owns the franchise and is a separate entity from Nintendo, and published this software alone. Nintendo has no plans to ever put any official apps on smartphones.
