Many will recognize Level-5 as the developers of Professor Layton, Dragon Quest VIII, and White Knight Chronicles. But Sega’s litigious action here concerns the Inazuma Eleven series, based on a popular anime and manga series about soccer.
Sega’s claim is that the games infringe on two patents. What that entails is unclear, though the in-game mechanic of moving characters with the touchscreen seems to be at the center of the legal action.
In addition to $11 million in damages, Sega is seeking to force the cessation of all eight games in the Inazuma Eleven series.
