At the start of today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that a new installment of the storied Fire Emblem series will be coming to 3DS.
Developed by franchise stewards Intelligent Systems, the latest Fire Emblem game looks to feature the same gameplay as the series’ previous 3DS installment, Fire Emblem Awakening, though the story and cast will be entirely new in this entry. According to Iwata, while Fire Emblem has always tasked players with making many small, carefully weighed choices, they will need to make even bigger decisions in the latest installment of the series, and the consequences of their choices will have a much bigger impact on the world. You can watch the first footage of the newest Fire Emblem game below.
Nintendo has yet to announce a release window for the latest installment of Fire Emblem.

A new Fire Emblem in the Sengoku era? Count me in! A change of pace is just what this series needed, I think. Fire Emblem is without a doubt my favorite videogame franchise, so naturally, this is my favorite announcement in the past year or so.
