With Yo-Kai Watch’s incredible popularity in Japan, it would seem quite natural for its creators to try and expand the series to other markets, as well. In a surprise announcement, Hasbro, an American toy company, has stated that it will be bringing a Yo-Kai Watch toy line in 2016 to North America, Latin America, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. Hasbro’s statement also includes information regarding Yo-kai Watch video games:
“The Yo-Kai Watch cross-platform experience will also include additional broadcasting, video game and merchandising relationships to be announced later this year.”
The Yo-Kai Watch series continues to reign supreme in Japan, with its latest version of Yo-Kai Watch 2 selling approximately 2.5 million copies so far. That is, of course, not counting how well the previous iterations sold. Considering Pokémon’s popularity in the West, Yo-Kai Watch, being mechanically similar as a game, should also have no problem selling well, but, I guess, only time can tell. At least now we know Yo-Kai Watch has a future outside Japan.

I’m surprised this seems to be taking this long. Given how well the series has been selling, you’d think there would be a very big push to get this into other markets. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued. The last time this many Japanese gamers agreed on something, we got Pokemon. And that worked out pretty nicely, didn’t it?
