After years of teases and cryptic hints via the Mingy Jongo Twitter account, a group of former Rare veterans have gathered together to form a new development studio: Playtonic Games.
While that is certainly an exciting development in its own right, the most tantalizing aspect of the news, particularly for fans of Rare’s Nintendo 64 output, is that Playtonic’s first project will be a spiritual successor to the N64 classic, Banjo-Kazooie. Dubbed “Project Ukelele,” the team promises to capture the same sense of whimsy and fun that made Banjo and Rare’s other N64 platformers such a magical experience. You can take a look at the first concept art for the title below.
Playtonic says that “Project Ukelele” is still very much in the early stages of development, but more information on the game will be revealed in tomorrow’s issue of Edge magazine. Until then, what do you think of the news of Playtonic’s formation? Would you love to see a new platformer in the vein of Banjo-Kazooie come to Wii U? Sound off in the comments!
