Publishers told Koji Igarashi, producer of Castlevania, that gamers have lost interest in the games he wanted to make. He told them that they were wrong and set out to create a spiritual successor to Castlevania with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Kickstarter. Guess what? He was right.
Bloodstained has received over $4.3 million in funding, making it the most successful game to be funded on Kickstarter to date. The previous record was held by Torment: Tides of Numenera, a role-playing video game which received $4.1 million in funding in 2013.
The newest features added to the game from achieved stretch goals have been a third playable character, orchestrated music, new game+, and an online challenge mode. The last stretch goal has also been revealed at $5 million, which will allow players to explore procedurally-generated roguelike dungeons. At the time of writing, there’s still about 30 hours left in the campaign, leaving a good amount of time for the campaign to raise more money for this feature.
Have you backed Bloodstained now that it’s coming to Wii U? Let us know in the comments!
