While many fans expected news from Retro Studios at today’s Nintendo Direct conference, a sequel to Donkey Kong Country Returns seemed fairly unlikely. After all, the title just received a port on the 3DS with brand new levels. Well, it looks like we’ll have another return to the country that changed platforming forever. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will release this November on the Wii U.
Two years ago, Retro Studios brought back several elements from the classic Donkey Kong Country trilogy that had been missing for over a decade. There were a few notable exclusions, of course. Notably, Dixie Kong and the much beloved water levels (Aquatic Ambiance, anyone?) were both MIA. With Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, both of those elements will be returning to the franchise. Could Enguarde the swordfish be far behind?
The Kremlings will still be sitting out this adventure, but that doesn’t mean we’ll see the previous title’s villains making a return. The Tiki Tribe will also be absent from Tropical Freeze. This time around, Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie will be confronted with a brand new opponent: a group of Vikings invading Donkey Kong Island. That’s not the only new element coming to the title, though. The game will also boast dynamic new camera angles and perspectives to give Tropical Freeze a different feel from its predecessor.
What other classic and new elements will Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze offer gamers this November? Stay tuned, as Nintendojo will offer impressions of the title later this week! In the meantime, let us know what you think of the new adventure in the comments below!
I do like the fact that they’re bringing along Donkey Kong into the new generation, but I would like to see a new DK64.
Personally, I thought it was a really fun game and would like to see him pull off another third-dimensional-world adventure once more.
WHY RETRO… WHY!!!!!! This is the biggest dissapointment of the year for me, i was hoping for a metroid game!
