This week has been rife with news about Pokémon X and Y, the upcoming 3DS installments of the monster catching series. First Nintendo kicked off its big E3 broadcast this past Tuesday by announcing the brand new Fairy type, then the company hosted a special developers round table later that evening that gave showgoers a closer look at the games’ online features, as well as a few new critters that Trainers will be encountering on their journey through Kalos. Now, following another leak from the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine, the company has unveiled four more Pokémon that will be making their debut in X and Y.
The first pair of monsters announced today are the pre-evolved forms of Vivillon, the new butterfly Pokémon revealed during Tuesday’s broadcast. The first, Scatterbug, is a small caterpillar found in plains and forests around the region. Scatterbug will evolve into Spewpa, a pupa Pokémon with a tough outer carapace and a more defensive move set (one of Spewpa’s known attacks is Protect). Both critters are pure Bug-types and will presumably evolve at fairly low levels, just as all larval Pokémon before them.
The other two monsters announced in today’s update are the Fire- and Normal-type Litleo, and the tiny fairy Pokémon Flabébé. Litleo is a lion cub who can learn a new attack called Noble Roar, which lowers your opponent’s Attack and Special Attack stats by one stage. Flabébé, meanwhile, is the second pure Fairy-type in Pokémon X and Y (after the newest Eevee evolution Sylveon), and lives on a single flower which it has been caring for its entire life, suggesting that players may encounter Flabébé with different colored flowers.
In addition to that, Nintendo has also announced a few more details on the characters you’ll meet on your journey. Players will begin the adventure in the picturesque town of Vaniville, a small city adorned with flower beds and a distinctive stone arch at its entrance. You and your four friends– Tierno, Shauna, Trevor, and your next door neighbor Serena (if you choose to play the game as a boy) or Calem (if you choose to play as a girl)– set out together to Santalune City, where you’ll face the city’s Gym Leader and Pokémon photographer Viola in your first gym battle. You’ll also meet Viola’s older sister Alexa, who works as a journalist for a publishing house in Lumiose City, early on in the adventure.
Last, but certainly not least, Nintendo has released a new gameplay trailer for Pokémon X and Y, which you can watch below.
