This week’s Nintendo Download is dominated by Level-5’s newest 3DS title, Professor Layton & the Azran Legacy! The Professor Layton series is famous for its brilliant puzzles and gorgeous animated cut-scenes with a well-written story, and Azran Legacy is no exception. I haven’t played an entry in the series since Unwound Future, but I may give it another try with this latest release since it’s the last game to star Layton as the protagonist.
Another interesting title to look out for is Tappingo for 3DS. Tappingo is a puzzle game that seemingly came out of nowhere, yet looks pretty promising and unique. The object of the game is to draw a particular object by extending preset numbered boxes to the specified length. For example, a box with a two on it needs to be extended to two squares. However, the boxes cannot be extended unless there is a line or an edge blocking it at the end, leading the player to think critically about each move they must make. With 100 different puzzles and a $2.99 price point, Tappingo seems to be a steal.
If you haven’t picked up Knytt Underground yet, now’s the perfect time! The game is currently 50 percent off in the Wii U eShop, which is a fantastic discounted price. I reviewed it earlier this year and admired it for it’s massive non-linear world, gorgeous surreal aesthetics, and well designed platforming segments. I personally thought that the religious overtone of the story could have been handled better, but Knytt Underground is still a great game. I’d recommend it if you’re craving a Metroidvania adventure!
Other releases this week include Renegade, an NES beat-’em-up available on the Virtual Console for Wii U and 3DS, and My Farm, which is yet another farming simulator for Wii U.
Are you excited about any of these games? Were you expecting more this week? Sound off in the comments below!
