The results for last week’s UK game sales are in, and the Kong family has some reason to celebrate. That’s because Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze placed number nine on Europe’s all-format Top 10. The title placed higher than any other newly debuting game. Unsurprisingly, The LEGO Movie Videogame topped the charts, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes also seemed to get a solid boost from the popular new film.
The showing for Tropical Freeze is especially impressive when one examines the numbers a little more closely, however. The all-format charts lump multi-platform titles together. While LEGO Marvel Super Heroes had a stronger performance for the week when accounting for every console it was available on, Tropical Freeze actually performed better than any one release for the game. When viewed by the individual platform charts for the week, we can see that Tropical Freeze was actually the fourth best-selling game overall. It should also be noted that the charts do not account for digital sales, and the game was only available for three days out of the week.
We’ll have a better idea on how the game is selling (including actual units sold) as the month goes on. That said, this is certainly good news for Nintendo. Did you pick up Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze this weekend? Let us know in the comments below!

Anecdotal evidence here, but when I went to my Target (U.S) on Saturday, they were completely sold out of Tropical Freeze. I settled for playing the demo that day, since I have a sizable backlog at the moment.
Anyway, hopefully this is the start the Wii U needs for a successful year.
