UK retailer GAME has let slip via its online store that an officially licensed Racing Wheel will be available alongside Mario Kart 8 this spring. Fans of motion-controlled karting will be excited by the news, but as of now it’s unclear if Nintendo will be bringing the peripheral to other regions beyond Europe.
Mario Kart 8 is due to launch in the west on May 30, so new information should be coming sooner rather than later. Just remember, folks; if someone’s sitting next to you with a Racing Wheel… “accidentally” bumping into the person you’re playing against is a completely legitimate tactic. Sort of. Okay, never.

The racing wheel for the Wii was absolutely superb.
So long as you didn’t need to make any sharp turns.
That’s when it fell apart. Like, playing online with the wheel was impossible. Of course controller precision will always out-play wild and erratic arm swings – but those arm swings – even at the cost of winning in Mario Kart (which is something I, nay everyone, takes super seriously) – still made the game super fun.
In comparison to the traditional tracks found on the SNES title – the tracks on the Wii seemed like super sixteen lane high-ways. And that just didn’t jive with me – until I actually “got into the game” with the wheel. When I was driving with the wheel – those tracks took on a different meaning and reality – and truthfully, I was sucked into that game because of it.
It’s been . . . what? Six years or so since the last main console Mario Kart? How long has Nintendo been working with motion controls now? Seven to nine? There’s going to be no excuse for this wheel not to make those sharp turns.
I really hope they don’t release this as a gimmick, but rather focus in and really nail down the feeling. It almost doesn’t make sense to, seeing as the whole “motion controlling” thing was totally last generation, and wouldn’t receive the same buzz these days as in the fore, but nevertheless. I want this to work.
Eagerly anticipating to see if it does. And . . . doesn’t anybody still have their Wii-driving-wheels left over? I’ve still got mine. Those would (should) work just as well, no?
Great, another plastic shell that doesn’t actually do anything!
No, no, no Jake!
It powers your imagination!
For like twenty bucks.
