Nintendo has made some strong gains in its homeland over the last few weeks, and the week of Christmas was no exception. According to Famitsu’s multi-format sales figures, the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U were the number one and two selling systems, respectively. The 3DS family of systems sold a combined 208,893 units, while Wii U moved 79,174 systems. The next best selling system was Sony’s PlayStation Vita at 75,207 units.
That wasn’t the only positive news for Nintendo, however. Eight of the top 10 games sold for the week were on Nintendo formats. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds debuted at number one while Puzzle & Dragons Z, Pokémon X and Y, Wii Party U, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D World, Monster Hunter 4, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf took the rest of the spots on the list. Surprisingly, New Super Mario Bros. U managed to outsell the newer Mario title by a few thousand units.
It’s certainly refreshing to see some positive news coming for Nintendo this holiday season. Hopefully the company can continue this trend into 2014! Did you find a Nintendo system under the tree this year? As always, let us know in the comments below!

Got my long-coveted 3DS this year. One benefit to waiting: I’ve cleaned up on used games. And it looks like I’m not too late to the party with Golf and Smash Bros coming soon! Just need to go get 3D World, Starfox, and Mario Kart and I’ll be closer to the library I want.
