Monster Hunter fans who were planning on swapping their save data from Wii U to 3DS right from the start might have been a little upset when they booted up the game and found the necessary app wasn’t available yet. Thankfully, their wait has been mercifully short because Capcom has announced the apps for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will go live Friday, March 22.
The app that makes it possible to move your save data from 3DS to Wii U and back again will be available on the 3DS eShop and is called the “Data Transfer App.” How utilitarian.
Another app is being released that might please those of you who only want the 3DS version of the game but still want to play with others online. The “Packet Relay Tool” will be found on the Wii U eShop, but its functionality might seem a little bizarre at first glance, because in addition to the application, your Wii U will also need a LAN Adapter so your Wii U can be wired into the web. Once you have that taken care of, the Wii U effectively bridges the 3DS to online play, but doesn’t allow it to play host, so 3DS-only gamers will only be able to connect to games started on someone’s Wii U. This doesn’t sound like the most ideal system, but at the very least it is better than nothing.
Hopefully fans will be able to use these apps to get the most out of their hunts.

I hadn’t paid attention so was pretty disappointed to find that 3DS wasn’t online play and was local only after I picked it up.
