Along with Amiibo compatibility, Nintendo has confirmed that the first batch of paid add-on content for Mario Kart 8 will be available starting November 13.
The Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1 will include four new vehicles and three new racers to choose from: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, and Link from the Legend of Zelda series. In addition to that, players will also get eight brand new courses, including ones based on Excitebike, F-Zero, and Zelda.
Players can purchase the Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1 for $7.99. A second DLC pack featuring characters from Animal Crossing will also be available in May, 2015. Players who purchase both packs together will get a slight discount.

Plunked down my money and preordered both today. $12 for that much content is a total steal. I haven’t played MK8 in months, but I can’t wait to revisit it, now!
I just earned my last perfect cup the other day, so this is perfect timing. Those new courses look fantastic, too!
