Unlike the rest of world, Japan still has a thriving arcade industry that Nintendo still likes to participate in from time to time. Several Mario Kart games have been made for arcades in collaboration with Namco Bandai, but now it seems that a less likely series, Luigi’s Mansion, will be trying its hand in the coin-op arena.

Nintendo is working with Capcom on the cabinet, and it was recently tested in arcades from October 30 through November 3. Not too much has been gleaned from the game aside from the fact that the player sits within the cabinet itself, and the game appears to be a light gun game, except the gun has been replaced with a controller modeled after Luigi’s in-game ghost busting vacuum, the Poltergust 5000.

Seeing how there wasn’t even an announcement that this game was being developed, other details are hard to come by, though if everything went well it might be safe to assume that it will become a permanent fixture in Japanese arcades sooner or later. A US release is technically possible as Mario Kart GP2 has seen release in some US arcades, but we will have to wait and see.
