It seems like barely a day goes by that we don’t get more news from Masahiro Sakurai about the next iterations in the Smash Bros. franchise. Last week, the director unveiled a pair of unique costumes for Little Mac, and today we received a sneak peak at some alternate costumes for two veteran fighters from the franchise.
This latest image was revealed this morning on the official Smash Bros. Twitter account, where we got our first look at alternate costumes for Mario and Samus. For those scratching their heads, Mario’s new costume seems to be inspired by the portly plumber’s outfit from NES Open Tournament Golf while Samus sports a color scheme that looks to be inspired by the Light Suit from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
With each new image it gets harder to wait patiently for this game to come out. Who are you looking forward to playing as?

I know I’m being picky, but I don’t want just similar looking color schemes, I want the whole thing, man. Gimme the REAL Light Suit, then we’ll talk, Nintendo! Lol at the stars and stripes, though! Nice.
I agree, but DANG does that suit look good. And the Mario pick is so obscure and awesome. Sakurai is really going crazy on the fan service. I love it.
I felt SO nostalgic when I saw that new Mario outfit. I have a lot of fond memories of playing NES Open with my dad when I was a kid, so I’m happy to see Sakurai pay homage to that game. I hope Luigi gets a similar costume as well. ;)
I keep hoping, nay, PRAYING, that Excitebike Rider is revealed as a secret character 0_0
